This beautiful 100m2 stone house was renovated by the current owner and is used as a holiday home.
It is positioned at the edge of the village of Houmeriakos, in Lasithi, and looks over the villages in the valley below, the countryside, and the mountains.
Apart from the lovely stone exterior of the house and tiled roof, a unique feature is the rock formations within the house, which have not been covered or removed. This, along with the original stone walls, wooden ceiling beams and stone doorways, as well as the wooden doors and windows, give the house a lot of character!
Upon entering the front door, one will see a fully equipped kitchen on the right and dining area on the left, next to a large protruding rock formation.
From here one enters the main, comfortably sized, bedroom and ensuite bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower.
A wooden staircase leads up from the kitchen area to the living room which has two doors leading out onto two different areas. The one, a small balcony that looks out toward the countryside (it accommodates a few storage areas – three small boxes built into the wall for garden pillows, and another storage room for larger items) The other, a larger terrace that looks over the village and mountains beyond that is shaded by a lovely wooden pergola.
At the entrance of the property is another, independent area, that is currently used for storage. It has a toilet with a small divider. It can easily be converted into a second bedroom or guest room.
The house is tiled throughout except for the living room which has a wooden floor.
The thick stone walls provide ideal insulation keeping the house relatively cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The owner uses gas heaters for extra heating for the colder months. Solar panels provide hot water.
Houmeriako is a lovely traditional Cretan village about 5 minutes’ drive from the town of Neapolis, which has all services and amenities, and 15 minutes from the town of Agios Nikolaos and its beaches.
