Geo Sculptural Residence was born from the need to preserve the landscape in combination with the design requirements of a modern environmental friendly home, and is located in the area of Kapsa Kavousiou in Northeastern Crete on a steep slope overlooking the island of Psira.
Characteristic of the area are the steep slopes that are considered special landscaping zones , and should be preserved as landmarks.
The aim of the design was to restore the landscape to its original form presenting elements with the least intervention, and a minimal imprint on the environment, from all aspects.
Thus, from the birds eye view, one can see some holes in the ground that illuminate the spaces inside, giving the feeling of an open space, or clearing, inside the house. One can still see the pool as a lake that protrudes from the ground. Next to the pool, is a metal pergola designed to resemble the foliage of a vineyard, a typical plant of the area.
The building’s façade, made of white plaster, mimics the terrain. Climbing plants and flowers spring from the exterior surface of the building.
The house consists of a vestibule that leads to the main area of the living room and kitchen. Ahead, are 3 ensuite bedrooms which can accommodate the guests of the house. Each area leads to the terrace and the pool where one can enjoy the Mediterranean sun.
In short, the design aims to create a new trend of transforming extroverted architecture into a more introverted proposal that will respect the environment while still offering an alternative and attractive form.
