Experience real Cretan rural life
Thes hillside village of Houmeriakos is about 12 kms from Aghios Nikolaos about 3 kms to the bustling town of Neapolis with all its facilities.
It overlooks the lush and fertile valley of Limnes and the village remains untouched by tourism. It is very pleasant to wander around and admire the stone houses with their traditional Cretan architecture and Venetian and Turkish backgrounds. Many of the houses have courtyards bursting with colour or filling the air with the scent of lemon and orange tree blossom. There are red tiled roofs, chimney pots fashioned from ancient amphora pots and brightly coloured flowers tumbling over walls.
During the summer evenings, the villages resound with the laughter of children playing safely in the streets and conversations fill the air as people sit outside their houses chatting. The village has a taverna, cafeneions and a mini market selling basic provisions. Mobile shops bring the rest.
The villagers are friendly and hospitable and by living or staying here one can experience real Cretan rural life, while being within easy reach of the seaside resorts of Aghios Nikolaos, Sissi and Milatos and the civic town of Neapolis.
