This amazing property is in the lovely village of Mochos, a traditional mountain village with narrow alleys and flower-filled courtyards, just 30 minutes from the airport of Heraklion.
This stone village house was originally 2 separate homes dating back to the 1700s and was renovated about 15 years ago to a high standard by the current owners, who kept all the original features and increased the value of the property by adding all the modern features needed for a comfortable lifestyle using excellent quality materials. All the floors are covered with either stone tiles, ceramic tiles or wood. The windows and doors were either repaired or replaced with similar reproductions using local materials. The walls are at least 50cm thick which helps keep the heat out in summer and the warmth in in winter.
Both sections are accessed from the enclosed front courtyard, through a secure wooden gate.
The house on the left has a beautiful, large living room and a fully equipped kitchen. The original arch and fireplace are still intact. The owners installed a wood burner in the old fireplace, a very practical way to warm the entire room. The floors are covered with lovely stone tiles.
Two steps lead up a wooden staircase to the top floor. Here is a large comfortable bedroom with the original ceiling beams and wooden floors. A large window opens out onto the terrace.
The part of the house, which is also accessed from the front courtyard, opens into a large and very practical utility room. There is also a small bathroom and shower on this floor as well as a spare bedroom towards the back.
From here one can go upstairs to the main bedroom and ensuite bathroom using a wooden staircase. The main bedroom is large and has two separate cupboards for clothes. It has a large window that lends light and offers a lovely view of the village and the courtyard below. The ensuite bathroom has a large bathtub and shower, sink, toilet, and bidet.
The main bedroom has an Air conditioner (inverter).
The bathrooms all have electrically heated towel rails.
Ascending the metal staircase from the courtyard, you will arrive at a stunning terrace adorned with tiled floors, electric sockets, and elegant metal railings. The terrace is further enhanced by a spacious wooden pergola, thoughtfully designed to provide both shade and privacy. Additionally, strategically placed tents offer protection from the sun while creating an intimate atmosphere.
This lovely terrace offers an incredibly comfortable living space, inviting owners and guests to unwind and relish in the captivating views of the village and countryside. Another metal staircase grants access to a second terrace. This unique space consists of two distinct areas, each with its own purpose.
The first area serves as a tranquil “garden,” providing another ideal spot to relax, and the second area has been ingeniously transformed by the current owners into a functional workspace, accommodating a shed for additional storage.
There are solar panels for water and 3 separate water circuits and a filter for clean drinking water. There is also direct access to fresh water and not from a water tank.
English standard electrical installation.
